The "Portable Hole"

This is our version of a banner stand often seen in SCA encampments. It is made a piece of 1" angle iron, 1/8" thick and 24" long, with two rings welded to it at distances of 3" and 10" from the top end. These rings are fashioned from 1/4" rod stock and are 1-3/4" in diameter on the inside. This stand is perfect for anchoring any banners on poles; the banners can be easily removed and replaced in the sockets formed by the ring, as shown on the right. The "portable hole" is also often used for setting up temporary fences and light structures.
